Self Reflection Essay for Lab Report Analysis
The very first step I took in my writing process for this assignment was to find my motivation, a topic that I would be interested in and care deeply about. I was always attracted to robotics and artificial intelligence, so that became my motivation for writing about artificial intelligence for my lab report analysis and in doing so I wanted to educate myself on how and why scientists/engineers would use artificial intelligence in their experiments. After that, the next step was to establish my audience and the tone of my writing. The audience could be anyone interested in this topic, but my main audience was Professor Rodwell. Since I am analyzing professional lab reports, the analysis on my part had to professional as well. So I used a formal tone in my writing.
After receiving feedback from my peers and receiving further explanation from the lecture, it came to my attention I should briefly summarize the lab reports so someone who has not read the three lab reports of my choice, will have the gist of it from the abstract. I also improved my word choice by eliminating words such as, “very,” and using synonyms in replace of it. In addition to that, I followed up the word “this” with nouns to be more specific. Also, I introduced my lab reports at the beginning of the paper so instead of saying the entire title I could refer to it in a shortened version. Such as referring to the lab report as Lab 1.
Furthermore, after concluding this assignment and putting the feedback I received from my peers and professors to use, I believe I learned and reached a few goals in the Course Learning Outcomes. From the Course Learning Outcome, I have successfully practiced using various library resources, online databases, and the Internet to locate sources that would best fit my writing assignments. Another Course Learning Outcome I know I have achieved was strengthening my source use practices such as citing, analyzing, summarizing, and paraphrasing. Through this assignment, I learned how to use APA style citations. In addition, I also enhanced my strategies for reading, drafting, and revising.
